Our new year definitely began with a bang: a rushed cross-country trip in winter with a dog and a cat.
The first couple days were more stressful because of the weather. Oregon and Idaho had a lot of snow and ice on the road. We were also pulling the U-Haul then, so it was even more dangerous driving in bad conditions. We dropped the U-Haul off in Salt Lake City and headed East. We were maybe fifteen minutes outside of Salt Lake when we saw a car in the ditch. We stopped to help and Brendan had the car pulled out of the ditch fairly quickly. Then we drove through Wyoming. It was cold and extremely windy. The wind was blowing the snow off the ground; it looked like it was snowing up and sideways. We had to drive about five miles an hour for at least thirty miles. After that, though, the weather was great the rest of the way, cold and sunny.
This map shows the path we took. It was about 3,000 miles total.
